Hunks in trunks…
I’m in sunny Devon with Mrs P and the kids.
Croyde Bay, one of my all time favourite
Surfing, sandcastles and rock pooling. I’m
not sure who’s enjoying it more, me or my
kids. Mrs P is also stalking the Lifeguards.
I’m still in training for my first triathlon.
I get up early, before the kids rise. ‘Get
the work done’, then I can relax and enjoy
the rest of the day.
This morning I had to swim. I tracked down
the nearest pool in Barnstaple.
As I entered the pool I could see two lanes
roped off ‘Private Hire.’ In these lanes are
about a dozen guys, swimming faster than I
At the end of each length they leap out the
pool, touch the wall, dive in and repeat.
After about 20 lengths they rest and go
again. Impressive stuff.
These guys had amazing physiques. Muscles
that served a purpose, not just for show.
Even as a married straight guy…I fancied
them! They all had Lifeguards swim trunks on.
I got chatting to one of them in changing
room. It turns out they all have to train
before they hit the beaches to look after the
I was impressed. We’ve all seen the laid back
Lifeguards on the beach. They do make the job
look easy. But when you see these guys jump
into action it’s a sight to behold. Speed,
power and knowledge of the currents.
The thing is these Lifeguards weren’t always
amazing swimmers. They had to train hard,
practice and get better. A bit like training,
kettlebells, losing extra ‘poundage’ whatever
Have a good evening.
I’m off out for a cream tea!
