I had a bit of a panic attack last week in
the pool. Felt like I was drowning. I need to
grow a set of gills!
I’ve been practising my swimming for a
triathlon I’m doing he end of August. I’m not
a weak swimmer, but I’m nowhere as good as I
thought I was. Typical guy I suppose,
reminiscing back to what I use to be able to
So I bit the bullet and hired a coach.
My coach Gill Kelly at Tri’n’Swim Well has an
amazing facility. It’s an indoor flume pool,
almost like a treadmill pool. So the water
flows against you while you swim, its
Now I don’t possess a pair of ‘budgie
smugglers’ yet (speedos/swimming trunks). So
I rocked up in just my regular swims shorts.
Do you know what my biggest fear was….my
shorts would come off in the current of the
water! Like everyone I have irrational fears
when trying something new, just like
kettlebells I suppose. Gill reassured me my
shorts would stay on with a smile on her
Anyway, this pool also has a load of cameras
in the water to help analyse my technique. So
there was certainly no ‘adjusting myself’ or
weeing in the pool here otherwise it would
get caught on camera!
Gill asked me to swim so I did my best. On
the playback I looked like I had 2
kettlebells tied to my feet, I looked
One hour later and some coaching from Gill
slowly but surely I got better and better.
Till finally I looked like I knew what I was
doing. Smooth, hydrodynamic with my swim
I was far from perfect but all I have to do
is practice practice practice.
Because any result, be in swimming,
kettlebells, weight loss….you need…
Coaching Practice Consistency
Thats it! There’s no fast track to getting
healthier or getting fitter. You just have to
DO THE WORK!
Have a good evening.
