My Dentist Loves Reggae

I hope you had a great week.
I had a bit of stressful beginning to my week.
I went to the dentist.
I’ll tell you about my visit in a moment.
To let you on on a secret.
I am scared of dentists.
No actually…
Here’s why…
A few years back I had some bad experiences.
I went through a phase where I didn’t look after my teeth properly.
I got an infection which meant ‘root canal’.
The phrase ‘root canal’ just sounds like ‘torture me legally’ doesn’t it?
I later learnt it was work that wasn’t really necessary.
Despite it feeling like they’d been drilling for oil, I ended up with just a big filling packed with antibiotics.
As you can imagine this left a bad taste in my mouth – literally, so I changed dentists.
I didn’t go for a few years, then I signed up with dentist no. 2.
Lovely girl, until she injected me and started drilling without letting the drugs kick in.
After they pulled me off the ceiling….. find dentist no.3.
Josh is a top dentist and all round nice bloke.  He’s pretty cool dude too.
Snowboarder that kind of stuff and he loves his training.
So we chat lots while I drown in my own saliva!
 Anyway, my visit.
The ‘mine shaft’ dentist no. 1 had drilled, the filling needed replacing.
Josh knows I’m a bit nervous, jumpy and about my past experiences.
So as soon as I get there he puts me at ease.
He tells me what he’s going to do.
I know he’s not going to hurt me.
So I let him do his job to the best of his ability, I trust him.
I know it’s going to be a little uncomfortable….it’s going to feel good afterwards though.
Most dentists listen to classical music, not Josh.
I’m just glad he taps his foot and doesn’t ‘drill to the beat.’
Anyway, so what’s you point Russell?
I know training is a bit like going to the dentist sometimes.
You don’t always want to go.
It can be uncomfortable, even a little painful, but the outcome will always be good.
I’m not  one of these trainers who gets huge pleasure from causing pain for days and days.
Those guys just like to massage their own egos.
I’m just like Josh, like to put you at ease, so I can do my job.
And you’ll feel good afterwards.  Nothing more.
 Have a great weekend.
