I went to see ‘Creed’ the next in Rocky trilogy here in the UK.
It was good (Personally Rocky III and Clubber Lang was my favourite!).
Anyway, without including any spoilers…
If you cut through the story line there’s a valuable training lesson to be learnt.
No…it’s not chasing chickens around the yard!
Adonis is the main guy, son of Apollo Creed (what a name).
Apollo was of course Rockys first opponent.
So Adonis works in an office but boxes pro on the side.
He’s had enough of the office grind, quits and goes all in on the boxing.
He’s pretty good and has some fights.
Self taught and not doing too bad.
Then he steps into the ring with a good pro boxer.
He gets knocked down and put in his place.
So he goes looking for a coach…enter Rocky Balboa!
There’s my point…
No matter how much you might love your training…
Crossfit, Kettlebells, Bodybuilding, Triathlons, the Gym…whatever is your thing.
You can get good, but you wont ever get better unless you do one of two things…
1. Train with someone who knows more than you.
2. Train with people who are better than you.
It’s just like taking a golf lesson from a pro.
Sure you can read and be self taught.
But there’s no substitute for experience.
Personally, I have a Russian Kettlebell coach who I see when he’s in the country.
I have a triathlon coach to help me with my programming.
I have our Gorilla-Grips made by the best Leather-smiths in England.
